Welcome to my Industrial Psychology internship blog! As an Industrial and Organisational Psychology (IOP) intern at Omnicor, I have had the opportunity to learn and grow in the field of Industrial Psychology. IOP is the scientific study of human behaviour in organisations and the workplace.

Securing an Industrial Psychology internship position can be competitive, and I feel fortunate to have secured an internship position at Omnicor for the duration of 2023. Upon starting my new position, I experienced many feelings, such as nervousness, anxiety, and fearfulness about what to expect. However, Omnicor’s OD Team and the onboarding programme enabled me to gain a better understanding of the various products and day-to-day operations and I soon felt at home in the space.

Trusting the culture was a key takeaway from one of our first intern check-in sessions, and this led to my involvement in incredible projects such as career counselling, coaching, recruitment and selection, and 360-degree surveys. By embracing the culture, I have grown as an individual and Industrial and Organisational Psychologist.

During my internship thus far, I have learned the importance of effective communication in the workplace, as it can lead to increased employee engagement and productivity and improved organisational outcomes. Additionally, I have had the opportunity to get involved in Omnicor’s Individual and Team Coaching process. I have followed the coaching process from start to end, and I have already seen the powerful systemic impact of coaching. Through 360-degree surveys and client meetings, I’ve gathered valuable insights on job satisfaction, work-life balance, and organisational culture, which has further helped me develop data analysis and interpretation skills.

Conducting research on current trends within the workplace has been an exciting aspect of my internship. I have been involved in researching the impact of COVID-19 on Women’s careers, and other topics, including the four-day workweek. This has given me valuable insights into how organisations can better support employees during difficult times. I am excited to continue exploring the many different aspects of this field and applying my newfound skills to my future career.

Thank you, Omnicor, for this wonderful opportunity!
